Doing our best to find good snow and steep lines in the whites.
Looking back on this day it is amazing to see how lucky we were with the conditions. Sometimes in the moment you are so focused on staying safe and dialing in your turns (especially when your third day of the season looks like this) that you forget about the immense amount of luck involved in finding a line this big ready to go so early in the season. This line is also a reminder of the importance of going for a wander even if historical patterns indicate the conditions won’t be ripe. The mountains change, day to day and hour to hour, there are sneaky pockets when everything aligns for a few moments and one’s hard work, patience, and training are rewarded. These moments are rare in the Presidential Range. High winds and cold temperatures do their best to beat up our snowpack as quickly as possible; but said variables make deep, light, and stable snow all that more rewarding. As always, many thanks to incredible ski partners, Ben and Ryan, for making days like this possible and always having eyes on.
